Microsoft Teams Introduces Real-Time Voice Translation Feature

Microsoft is enhancing Teams with a new “Interpreter” feature, allowing users to replicate their voice in real-time across nine languages, including English, French, Mandarin, and Spanish. Unveiled at Microsoft Ignite 2024, this feature is set to launch in early 2025 and aims to make multilingual communication seamless by mimicking users’ voices during translations.
.
Microsoft assures that the tool will not store biometric data or alter the original message and can be disabled via settings. Voice cloning will only activate with user consent.
.
While promising, AI translation tools like Interpreter face challenges such as occasional inaccuracies and potential misuse, including fraud. Microsoft is expected to introduce additional safeguards to ensure security and prevent abuse.
.
At Cathcart Technology, we see this advancement as a significant step forward in enhancing global collaboration while emphasizing the growing need for skilled AI professionals to ensure security.
