Cathcart Technology is partnering with a global technology company to hire a Staff Data Engineer for their expanding Bangkok engineering hub. You would be joining a specialist squad working at the intersection of data, machine learning, backend engineering, building the pipelines, platforms and tooling that allow data science and commercial teams to run experiments in production at pace.
The team works across structured and unstructured data at genuinely significant scale. This is a hands-on technical leadership role with end-to-end ownership: you will not simply maintain pipelines but building the systems that shape how business makes decisions. The environment is engineering-led, with an international team and a strong culture of experimentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading the team technically to improve the scalability, quality, accuracy, speed and efficiency of existing data and ML processes
- Designing, building and testing tools, libraries, pipelines and platforms that enable data science and business teams to launch experiments in production
- Working alongside engineers and product owners to identify and build automation for large-scale data management, analysis and ML workloads
- Taking full end-to-end ownership of the systems that support rapid experimentation in a production environment
- Analysing data to inform and improve technical and commercial decision making
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or a related discipline
- At least 6 years of engineering experience, including at least 4 years focused on data or ML engineering
- Expert-level capability in designing, writing and maintaining data pipelines and systems with a strong emphasis on data quality
- Strong command of SQL, Python 3 and a JVM-based language such as Java or Scala
- Solid grounding in software design, design patterns, functional programming and object-oriented programming
- Comfortable working across a stack including Python 3, Scala Spark, Hadoop, SQL and S3
- Familiarity with general machine learning concepts and common models such as regularisation and tree-based models
- Familiarity with statistical analysis concepts such as p-values and z-scores
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability, with a data-driven engineering mindset
- Experience with Hadoop ecosystems, big data architecture, agile and test-driven development, or Linux systems administration would be an advantage
