Cathcart Technology Finds LinkedIn Is the Top Job Platform for Tech Talent
In our latest IT Salary Guide 2025, we asked over 590 tech professionals where they most actively search for jobs. The results reveal clear preferences and highlight where companies should focus their hiring efforts.
LinkedIn stands out as the most popular platform for job seekers, with 33% identifying it as their top choice. With the shift towards remote-friendly roles and global mobility, candidates are increasingly using LinkedIn not just to apply for jobs, but to showcase their skills and connect with recruiters directly.
Job boards such as JobsDB and Seek remain highly relevant, used by 30%. Closely behind are company websites that remain influential too. This reinforces the importance of having an updated and well-branded careers page — especially in the tech industry, where employer image and mission can be deciding factors for candidates.
Recruitment agencies remain a crucial part of the job search journey. At Cathcart Technology, this reflects our own experience. Many candidates trust specialist recruiters to not only match them with suitable opportunities but also offer personalised advice — something job platforms cannot always provide.
Social media platforms like Facebook are also being used, with companies and recruiters regularly sharing job openings and updates. Meanwhile, personal and professional networks still hold significant value, underlining the importance of referrals and internal advocacy.
Finally, freelancing is gaining ground, with 16% of professionals exploring contract-based roles, a sign of growing demand for flexibility.
The takeaway for employers is clear. A strong hiring strategy in 2025 means meeting candidates where they are, across multiple platforms.
